Radiant Heated Lines Survey

Xradar were recently hired by a Toronto manufacturing plant to perform a concrete scan of an area where they had previously hit a heated pipe within slab on grade.

We often work with clients who have undergone work that has resulted in damage to objects within the slab on grade, such as conduits, pipes and heating lines. Our process is accurate and non-destructive, meaning that you can avoid costly damage and project delays.

Situation

A manufacturing plant in Toronto required scanning of a large section of their warehouse for the installation of storage racks. Engineers confirmed radiant heated lines and reinforcement were present within the slab on grade which needed to be avoided when anchoring into the concrete.

Prior to an Xradar technician performing a concrete scan, an attempt was made to install the racking with the hope of avoiding heated pipes and rebar. Inevitably this led to hitting a heated pipe, causing significant damage and a messy cleanup.

Solution

Our trained Xradar technicians performed concrete scanning over 1000 square feet using our Xradar™ Enhanced Concrete Scanning System. Heated pipes and rebar were marked on the slab in tape so not to damage the topping.

In addition to scanning with Xradar™ and GPR, we also utilized an infra-red camera to detect the buried heated pipes, confirming the locations we identified using GPR. This enabled the safe and accurate placement of the storage racks, avoiding all heating lines and rebar.
