Concrete Scanning at Book Café Unit for Water Discharge Installation

A soon-to-open shopping mall in Petaling Jaya required structural assessment for a book café outlet prior to the installation of a water discharge system.

The plan involved coring at 5 designated locations, but the risk of striking post-tension (PT) cables raised safety concerns. Striking PT tendons could lead to serious structural damage, costly delays, and service interruptions.

To eliminate that risk, our team conducted a concrete scan using Xradar™ at all 5 core points. The high-resolution imaging provided a clear view of embedded elements such as rebar and PT cables within the slab.

At one of the proposed core zones, PT cables were identified directly beneath the marked location. Our team immediately recommended repositioning the core, which allowed the client to proceed with their installation safely and without compromise to structural integrity.

The entire scanning and assessment process was completed in just 1 hour.

This project highlights how even routine coring works can benefit from advanced non-destructive testing. With fast turnaround and actionable data, Xradar™ helps eliminate guesswork, reduce risk, and support smarter decisions on-site.
