While the tank appeared cylindrical from the outside, the internal walls were slanted which would result in variable thickness at different points. Before proceeding, the client needed to determine the wall thickness and reinforcement layout at two critical locations to avoid damaging structural elements.

We conducted a structural assessment using Xradar’s non-destructive scanning tools. Ultrasonic Pulse Echo (UPE) was used to measure the wall thickness and detect any voids or anomalies within the concrete. To further support safe coring, we mapped the reinforcement layout at both proposed locations, identifying safe zones and ensuring no rebar would be compromised. In addition, we performed Rebound Hammer testing to estimate the concrete’s compressive strength and likely grade.

The entire assessment was completed in under 4 hours. With detailed information on thickness, rebar distribution, and concrete quality, the client was able to proceed without unnecessary risks on the tank’s structural integrity.
